SOGS-SG Questioned Chris Willmore about the Determination Date
Email received from Chris Willmore on 14th December 2025
The determination date is the target set automatically. There is no proposal to determine the application for ages – certsinly not 15th January – That is simply the date six months from when the application was received. The government’s policy is that major applications should be determined in 26 weeks (www.gov.uk/guidance/determining-a-palnning-application – hence the computer flags this up. But in practice the developers grant extensions. There are still so many issues to resolve on this site, Some of the statutory consultation comments have only just come in and I understand there are likely to be revised plans.
So, I would ignore that date. I cannot see it being determined until at least the summer.
I am sorry not to have come back with full answers to questions yet – I have done a draft but wanted officers to check it. Hope to have it with you before Christmas.

SOGS-SG sought further clarrification:
Email received from Chris Willmore on 15th December 2025 to clarify previous email
The extensions do get agreed in writing and formally recorded. But the official government target date doesn’t change.
The developers could cut and run. But they won’t - developers whose sites are in the plan don’t cut and run. Those hostile tactics are more likely to be used by those whose sites are not in the plan.
The Draft Local Plan has little weight currently and they have many outstanding issues they have not yet resolved.
